Who sells ETFs?

Issuers provide the ETFs; brokers sell access to them by letting you trade shares on exchanges.

February 17, 2026

ETFs are provided by issuers (asset managers) that run the fund, but you usually buy them through a brokerage account. Your broker is the platform that routes your trade to the exchange where the ETF is listed.

Because ETFs trade like stocks, most brokers offer access to a wide range of ETFs, including funds from competing issuers. Some brokers also promote "commission-free" ETF lists, though spreads still apply.

If you're choosing where to buy ETFs, compare trading costs, fractional share support, account features, and how easy it is to research holdings and fees. The ETF itself is the same product, but the trading experience can differ.
