What is a REIT ETF?

A REIT ETF holds real estate investment trusts, offering diversified exposure to publicly traded real estate.

February 17, 2026

A REIT ETF invests in real estate investment trusts (REITs), which are companies that own or finance income-producing real estate. This gives you public-market real estate exposure without buying properties directly.

REITs can provide income, but they're sensitive to interest rates and economic cycles. In rising-rate environments, REITs can face pressure even if property fundamentals are stable.

If you use a REIT ETF, check sector exposure (residential, industrial, data centers, retail, etc.) and concentration. Real estate is diverse, and different REIT segments can behave very differently.
