Can an ETF be traded after hours?

Sometimes. If your broker supports extended-hours trading and the ETF is eligible, you can trade it outside regular hours.

February 17, 2026

Many brokers offer extended-hours trading, and that can include ETFs. Whether a specific ETF is tradable after hours depends on broker rules, exchange venues, and the ETF's eligibility. Even when it's available, spreads can widen and liquidity can drop. (fidelity.com)

After-hours pricing can be trickier for ETFs whose underlying holdings aren't trading at the same time, like some international equities or parts of the bond market. That can lead to prices that move more on smaller trades.

If you do trade after hours, limit orders are usually a safer default than market orders. They help you avoid getting filled at an unexpectedly poor price when spreads widen.
